The inaugural SIM Windsurfing Championship has come to an end after a tiring 2 days worth of windsurfing. Together in conjunction with the SIM 29th Singapore Windsurfing Open, this year's competition was held at NSRCC on the 9-10 January.

The wind over at NSRCC was rather gusty and shifty. So it was indeed a true challenge for all the sailors to windsurf in such conditions. Nevertheless our team fought hard and did their very best for the 7 races.

I'm proud to announce that we have yet again performed well for the competition. 5 of our sailors managed to clinch podium finishes in the respective 4m Novice Men, 4m Novice Ladies, 6.2m Mixed and 6.5m Men category.

Congratulations to yoongwend (4m Men - 2nd), choonpeng (4m Men - 3rd), ziying (4m Ladies - 1st), weicheng (6.2m - 3rd), zhudong (6.5m - 2nd)! Great job to Karen and Nick, who came in 4th in their respective categories too =)

Our ex-president, Samuel Chng also did us proud by clinching 2nd in the Raceboard category in the Singapore Windsurfing Open too!

Last but not least, a big thank you to the helpers who dedicated their time and sweat for the event! Thank you to katrina, jocene, sabrina,yew ming, jeron, yeekai, meisi, weizhong for everything =)

Next up is the greatly anticipated Inter-Tertiary Windsurfing Competition (ITWC), organised this year by NTU Windsurfing Club on the 7 Feb. So come down and support us if you can make it!

p.s unfortunately we don't have photos for the SIM windsurfing championship because no one brought a camera along. Anyway, this is Samuel Chng, with his purple-pink (OMG girly) sail. Haha =P

December Training Camp 2009

Many of the people may not know this, but this was actually the first major event for our newly-formed Windsurf committee since the taking over, which kinda bonded us all to work together for the first major common goal. And I'm glad to say that the camp turned out to be an great event!

At the first sound of the title, it may seem like a very exclusive camp where windsurf racers come together to hone their skills, but that is misleading!
Basically this camp is for everyone, yes EVERYONE who wants to improve their personal proficiency in windsurfing. I was extremely happy to see many new learners signing up for the camp because passion is one main fuel to this sport.

The format of the camp is 3D2N, which may leave many thinking that the actual effective surfing time is at most 2 days' worth. In that case, what's the big deal right?
The measurement of quantity is correct, but the quality is totally different. Usually on our weekend surfs, you get to go out, explore the ocean with your windsurf and come back, period.
But during the December training camp, we reinforce their theory, plus provide senior surfers on standby to attend to any questions that you have, may it be on how to uphaul properly, or how to do an impressive gybe. We encourage participants to all ask as many question as possible and try out new boundaries that they usually wouldn't have tried on their own. It's a controlled environment where you can try out all the skills you want to master, with experts on the sidelines to attend to your questions whenever you want.

On top of that personalized attention that we provide during the camp, we also set up courses for you to try out a specific directed windsurfing. It may seem fairly easy to move, but when you have a specific target to hit, you will realise mastering of all your basic skills is essential to an efficient course movement. During this year's camp, many surfers managed to get a good grasp of their basic tacking skills and by the end of day 2, most could go out into the ocean and come back to shore with ease, as compared to day 1 where majority was drifted far away. In light of the good results, I reiterate again, the quality of time spent in December training camp is totally different from any other normal surfing time.

But putting the sport aside, I have to say the overall bonding of this camp's participants is extremely satisfying as well. The natural pace of the event set the surfers to bond thru games and interaction easily such that by day 2, many of the new acquaintances were already friends who are able to share their personal life stories and secrets. The aftermath of the camp led to and explousion of activity on facebook and it was heartwarming to see that friendship did not die with the end of the camp, in fact it was just a new beginning.

Overall, this year December training camp not only brought our skill levels higher, it also raised our passion for the sport and our care for fellow surfers :D

The Past Week...

Though held one week later, NUS Windsurfing Club had is very own Mid-Autumn Celebrations/BBQ at Zunzin's hall on 9th Oct, Friday. As with many NUS Windsurfing BBQs (think wheelbarrow in PA), we didn't manage to book a BBQ pit and settled for a makeshift one instead. It turned out to be a flaming success and there were lots of roasted marshmallows going round! The highlight of the night (besides the delicious cambal fish fillet cooked by Yong Jian) was the delightful treat of delicious mooncakes with flavours like chocolate truffle, lotus paste, chocolate, durian snowskin! Burn off those calories at the next windsurfing session! =)

The committe surf session on 11th Oct, Sunday, was blessed with good sun and wind. Our president and vice-president gave a brief debrief after the windsurfing session about the upcoming Internal Race and December Training Camp. Ending off the meeting on a high note, we surprised the October babies, Valerie and Felle, who had the honor of seconding the tradition of having a watermelon (with lots and lots of whipped cream) birthday cake after their predecessors, Weizhong and Charissa. Wishing Valerie and Felle a Happy Birthday and many more to come!!

Beginner's course & Welcome Tea

Hi All!

Thank you for the overwhelming response for sign ups for our windsurfing beginners' course. That, I tell you, is the BEST decision that you would never regret. =) Once you get pass the initial balancing act, windsurfing would feel like the shiok-est sport you ever tried.

We would love to see you guys come down for our regular surfing sessions on weekends after your course, where the more experienced friendly surfers would be more than happy to help you guys out.

As I mentioned in the first sentence, the response we've got have been OVERWHELMING (since its the new acad year), so there's many of you who are currently on the waitlist. Not to worry, as we'll be coming up with more course dates soon and will keep you guys posted.

Also, if you are interested to learn more about what windsurfing is all about, what our club does or keen to join our committee, please do join us at our welcome tea at SRC Dance Studio (above the swimming pool) tomorrow (18 Aug) at 6.30pm!

We have reserved the following club board entries for current students from each of the 4 varsities (NTU, SIM, SMU and NUS):

3x 4m² Club board Novice (please fill at least one male AND one female competitors)
2x 5m² Club board Open
2x 6m² Club board Open

Club Board entries are reserved for varsity students.
There is no entry limit for Raceboard, Bic Techno and RS:X categories. Entry is subject to their respective class rules.

Basic windsurf techniques! Chapter 1

Well, don't know how many people actually come here to check stuff out, but i'll try my hand at writing a maybe weekly-fortnight/monthly column on the windsurf techniques that i've been using/practising or reading up on..

Starting from the very very very basics.

In order to go faster and not fall into the water so often, we all have to overcome the fear of stepping onto the centre line! While it seems more unstable to position your feet over the centre line of the board, this is crucial!! Cannot stress how important doing this is to windsurfing. Let me explain..

Pitch (how flat the board is relative to the water) is affected by not standing on the centre line. When your feet are widely spaced apart on the board and not over the centre line, when you transfer weight from one foot to the other, the board will rock. When the board rocks, it creates more resistance in the water - slowing you down!

In order to control the pitch (imagine looking from the front of the board), for most sailing directions, the ideal foot placement is:

back foot perpendicular to centre line and across the centre line

front foot parallel to centre line and just beside and maybe a bit behind the mast foot.
*the arrangement is sorta like an L-shape and helps you achieve the cool windsurfer look

So long story short: Keep over the centre line as much as possible!

The foot placement also helps your body twist into the correct direction depending on which direction you're sailing.

Next up : philosophy to faster surfing (can't think of a better name..)

We're proud to announce that NUS has EMERGED CHAMPIONS AGAIN for the 3RD CONSECUTIVE YEAR!

KUDOS to you guys racers! And of course, we must thank all those who came down to help and support our team out there!

To quote our chairman Samuel Chng,
"Last but not least I would like to give my special thanks on behalf of the entire NUS Windsurfing Club to a special group of people who sacrificed so much of their time and energy during the two day race! These are the helpers who sat on the boats and suffered much labour and sun burn and helped to make this event a success and without them, there would not be us!!

yesterday marks the swan song project, Constantwind NUS Windsurfing Championships 2008, for us as a team. ahzhong like to applaud sneaky Sam and Shushu for their efforts put in that day, especially their sacrifices not to be able to take part in the race. Let's give them a big SMS Thanks k. That said, I also want to thank everyone in this comm who have worked so hard individually and as a team for the past year. ahzhong salutes you!

Today's event was a success, it will not be possible if not for this team coming together. Zhi Yuan (SMU Windsurf Chairperson) asked me how did we manage to organise everything so nicely for the race. My reply to him was it was NUS Windsurf Comm 07/08, we split roles and responsibilities then piece it up together on 23 Aug.We still got one last thing to do, that is to hand over all your roles and responsibilities properly ok.

Special People of the Month!

Yeah, something new to kick start the new semester 2008/09! Well, this can be either person of the month, or person of the week, or even person of the year depending on my free time! hah. (you get the hint!)

This episode, we have 2 special person onboard our list!

They are namely Esther Ogawa & Seah Wei Cheng.

Esther Ogawa? Japanese? Chinese? Jap-Chin? Yes to all. Well, Esther started windsurfing under the influence of this guy called SuperSam. I've seen her surfed since 2007 Dec, and recently at PA Windsurfing Championship 2007, this girl wow-ed everyone with her impressive performance in the 4M category consisting of both girls and guys. She clinched a 3rd position out of a total of 10 participants (msian kids, SIM windsurfers, NUS surfers). It was a feat which I was in particular, very amazed and proud of. Especially seeing her surfing in all the races, how she overtook her competitiors, Sam was saying it was very entertaining seeing her overtaking people, damn exciting can... I had an opportunity to interview her on msn. Here's what she says..

ahzhong: you won 3rd place for PA Open 2008 4M category. What are your feelings at that point of time

esther: hmm...as in immediately after the race? or after getting from 1st to 3rd?

ahzhong: talk about 1st..then heard the news of 3rd

esther: wells...it was unexpected..yeah so surpriseddd

ahzhong: fwah..all one word answer..say more leh

esther: wat more?

ahzhong: moving on, what were ur strategies during the 2 days races (6 races in total)?

esther:wait ar...i went to see the diving:) (olympics temptation hard to resist)

esther: oh strategies.. wels i din have anyy

ahzhong: hah..fwah, anyhow win ah?

esther: where got strategy one. i mean, after dec, the nus internals, i got last in that race..so i expected to get last again, since i havent train since then and im not a competitive person.

esther: yup and some more cant even start some races last time..haha.. and sam signed me up, not me signed me up, and this time only 2 girls..so i planned to get last lor..

ahzhong: so dec 2007 until now, 8 mths is all you need to be so good?

esther: haha, i guess, but then, cant compare mar.. i think its a different bunch of competitors. i mean last time is lisa and all tt, they're damn good la. now is maybe less pro ppl tts why

ahzhong: i beg to differ, cos got malaysian kids and smu, sim guys. you won them flat down man!
from 1st to 3rd, it was an accident which no one expected. we all knew you are the CHAMPION in our heart.

esther: haha funny la. actually even 3rd was really lucky kir. i mean.. ocs (on course start, start before horn),tt takes a lot of points, so still pretty surprised.i still think our nus ppl are better than msian kids smu guys etc

ahzhong: what message do you have towards our new and budding windSurfers? some words of wisdom from someone who have Surfed with NUS WindSurf Club, toOk part in competitions and won top 3 among boy/girl mixed race?

esther: haha. hey, are u gonna put this all up, ahhh, means like i gotta think abt wat im saying rite. err...i guess find some new ppl to surf with so u can learn together and find some pros in nus com (like samuel n weizhong) who are ever so helpful to teach..wells even if they're not teaching u..just go and follow them for fun. mainly.. take it easy and have fun. and learn new things when u get bored of goinng straight and tacking

ahzhong: thanks for your time in answering all the questions! I'm sure you will be an inspiration to many new windSurfers in time to come!

ahzhong:of cos you need to be proficient at what u are doing, i.e. know ur points of sails and standing posture etc. then you can enjoy that. Now that Miss Esther is such a Pro, i dun think that's a problem. We loOk forward to seeing Esther on the waters again, stunning us with her moves. LoOk out for her this coming Sat @ Constantwind NUS WindSurfing Championship 2008.

Seah Wei Cheng: A Windsurfing Rookie who took the course in May 2008, is set to storm the windsurfing arena with his potential. I think he can be damn good, given more time and practice and he resembles Jude (Muscleman) in my opinion, both muscular!

Just a short msn interview with him as he was going to sleep. Here's what he said:

ahzhong: so Mr RooKie of the month. when was the first time u picked up WindSurfing?

Wei Cheng (WC): cant rmb! haha. felt like i've windsurf all my life. or.. perhaps.. my life only began when i started windsurfing..

ahzhong: omg, less cheesy pls. ha. how many months since u first started?

WC: would better say it as in may..when holidays started..

ahzhong: u got a lot of potential, considering the fact that u got no sailing background, and u're progressing at such a fast pace. u toOk part in the recent PA Open 2008, how was the experience?

WC: shiok. holland (means got lost in Spore lingo) in the first race until v happy..sent so many experienced windsurfers to the wrong bouy at NSC..(cos he was leading at the very first race)

WC: greatest sense of achievement was coming in first in one race (the forth race) after getting DNF for the first 3 races.

ahzhong:wow, 1st..that was good. I guess u should have gotten a medal in that race,
If u had stayed for all the races and raced well

Well, this episode also comes to an end with the interview of both Esther and Wei Cheng. We will definitely see more of the 2 of them in Windsurfing scene. I expect Wei Cheng to be getting something in the upcoming Constantwind NUS Windsurfing Championship 2008. What's this you might ask and what's the difference anyway? Well, both pictures above shows the president of NUS Windsurf Club clinching the Overall Champion in the Inter-Tertiary Windsurfing Championships (ITWC) in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Same pose but different president, yet the same sweet victory experienced. We started training for ITWC since Dec 2007, for the sole aim of getting the overall champion back again. I am really glad and proud to say that we've done it again! All the weekly training sessions of both land and sea were paid off. Windsurfing in the tertiary level may not be as recognised as the other sports but there is one thing I am sure of, we have worked damn hard for this. It's not for others people to see but for us(all NUS Windsurfers, as long as you have surfed with us) to remember that YOU once walked through a journey that you will not forget. Eight of us went for the race and we came back with 6 medals out of a total of 12 among all the 4 universities. We bettered last year results (4 Gold, 1 Bronze) to 4 Golds and 2 Silver in the 4 categories we took part in.

To all those in the race team, nothing beats the exhilaration of the moment before and during the race. Everyone will be lined up at the start line, wanting to be in the lead. The horn goes off and everyone will be pumping off to a mad dash for the first upwind mark. This part of the race has to be the most exciting of all, with the exception of overtaking others during a race and the close finishing of 2 windsurfers at the finishing line.

Here you go! I present to you Team NUS Windsurf Club with their victorious medals.

I wanna say to everyone (race team, recre members who came down to support, Comm members, gf/bf of NUS Windsurfer) that YOU have not let yourself down! You have done yourself proud! I am "Truly Madly Deeply" proud of You! Since we started training, I just had the aim of making everyone improve as much as possible because we knew that our competitors were strong and we might not stand a chance against them. My focus was to train train and train, make ourselves as prepared as we can and go out there and do our best. After the ITWC, after we were anounced Champions by Jiayi, I realised something a few days after that: We had all improved! We owe our improvements mainly to Uncle Tan, and everyone else. We shared with each other on techniques and pin point one another's mistake while out at sea. This had allowed us to progress in leaps and bounds.

I strongly believe in the spirit of 'give & take', I've taken so much from my seniors when I started learning windsurfing. Basically, all those who started windsurfing earlier than me (Stef, Wilson, Paul, Uncle Tan, Tesma, Charlene, Yijun, Justin, Joel, Jasmine, Lionel, Jiayi, Yongjian, Samuel, Weiming), they have given me invaluable advice and are people who inspired me to be as good as them. Since I took on the role of Training Coordinator, it was time to start giving what I knew to others. Indeed, I had fun doing so, seeing all the recre members getting better. Someone said to me: "everytime I see you push urself, I get inspired". In fact, this is how I feel everytime I see someone better than me surfing out there, they were my inspiration too! That's the crux and gist behind NUS Windsurf Club in my opinion, we all inspire one another. Honestly speaking, we have all improved, I think back on the races, rookies and experienced surfers were on the same level at times. This will push me to want to improve somemore, and to all those rookies, surpass your teacher who have taught you!

The NUS Windsurf Family which I so adore! You guys gave me memories for a lifetime! Thank you all.

We Are The Champions, My Friend

Ok, being gay and nerdy, i came home after ITWC 08 to log onto my com, and decided to post something on our blogspot for the first time!

When i was just an innocent and blur freshie in NUS (ok maybe i still am), i decided to pick up a new sport. I thought to myself: what better sport to try than windsurfing since i have some sailing experience? Hence i went for the windsurfing level one course, and tried to attend the surf sessions thereafter, as well as the December training camp. After the training camp, i distinctly remembered swearing to myself i would quit windsurfing, as i drowned far too often, had to get towed back a ton of times, and my arms/back/legs/every other body part i never knew would ache actually hurt immensely after every surf session!

When i entered my sophomore year in NUS, i felt that life in university really was very boring after all, and so to spice up my life, i decided to join the windsurf comm. That was when my surfing skills improved tremendously. Despite the challenge of being the course coordinator, i felt that i had so much fun. After much deliberation, i decided that i shall stay on for another year in the comm.

In between the numerous windsurfing sessions, be it recre or training, the Ophir trip, the xmas celebrations, the CNY dinners, the study sessions, the bridge games and other silly nonsense that we play, the phuket trip and all the other outings we have had, i must say that i have had so much fun. Windsurfing over the weekends adds so much more excitement to the otherwise mundane uni life! Heck, we even have our own blog! How cool is that?! And today at ITWC 08, where NUS Windsurfing Club got overall champions for what is the 3rd consecutive year , all the bonds we've made and the efforts we've put in to make windsurfing our passion all came true. The show of support from comm and non-comm members alike, the smooth execution and efficiency of ITWC organised by none other than ourselves, and the competitive spirit we all displayed to cheer one another on really showed just how strong we are as a club! Of course, we would be no where if not for the ever sacrificial and helpful Uncle Tan! We owe so much to him for training us and watching us grow as windsurfers! For the racers and non-racers, this victory belongs to all of us~ Thanx guys for everything, may our passion for the sport continue. I'm so proud i decided to stay on in this club, NUS Windsurfing Club really is the best club ever!

NTU Open 2008 Results

NTU Open 2008 Results

NUS Windsurf Club went for NTU Open 2008, an annual event organised by NTU on the 16th Feb 2008. We sent in a total of 8 surfers to take part in the 4, 5 & 6 metre sq categories. Our surfers did NUS proud by clinching 2 Golds and 1 silver in this race.

An introduction to the windsurfing races at the University level, usually there will be the 4 main University (NUS, NTU, SIM, SMU) who will come together and compete with one another in 3 categories according to different sail sizes. Novices will take part in the 4 metre sq category which is meant for those without any major race experience. The 5 & 6 metre sq are meant for both ladies and men who are more experienced. On the windsurfing calendar, every year there are a number of race which we will look forward to, they are NTU Open, NUS Championship, People's Association (PA) Open, Singapore Open (if club board category is available) and the most coveted Inter Tertiary Windsurfing Competition (ITWC) which every University wants to achieve. For all these competitions, only the ITWC has the Team Trophy award where the best windsurfing university is announced after tabulating all the results from all categories.

Last Sat, on the 16th Feb 2008, I am very proud of every single NUS Windsurfer who represented NUS in the NTU Open 2008. After months of tough land and sea trainings, their hard work were paid off. I am indeed very happy as a training coordinator as I see the results on that day. They only had that few months to grapple with the complexity of windsurfing (requires a lot of techniques and theory application) and they managed to get a very decent position. These people are Lindsay Li who got 4th out of 6 surfers in the 4M ladies and Kwanrong, who also got 4th out of 5 surfers in the 4M men. Both of them were real close to 3rd. They raced a total of 4 races and can discard the most undesirable race, and point system based on the summation of their positions in the best 3 races. Lindsay only lost to the 3rd placing by 2 points while kwanrong was short by only 1 point. Meanwhile, Teresa did herself & NUS proud by getting First in the 4M ladies category. She was the fastest lady among the ladies in every race and even came in before the men in the first race. These are the 3 Team NUS members who took part in the 4M category.

Moving on to the 5M category - we got Jasmine, Jiayi and Willie. Jiayi did very well in her first race by coming in 2nd among a total of 12 competitiors. As the conditions on that day was very 'nasty'(strong wind and swift currents), and Jiayi had some problem with one of the lines on her sail, she was not able to perform as well in the rest of the races. Overall, she was ranked 7th out of 12. Moving on to Willie, he was ranked overall 5th, 2 points shy of the 3rd and 1 point short of the 4th. Out of the 4 races, he did well in the 2nd and 3rd race by getting 2nd and 4th position respectively. It was the first and last race which pulled him down and pulled the medal away from him. Willie was always so close to a medal, in the last 2 competitions he took part, it was the same too. Last NUS Surfer in the 5M category was Jasmine, our Chairperson for NUS Windsurf Comm 07/08. She showed us that not only guys can dominate the windsurfing field, she proved it to everyone through her Silver medal. For all the 4 races, she came in 3rd. Her consistent result brought her the sweet victory that she always wanted, not only for herself but also for Uncle Tan, our Coach, who trained us relentlessly.

Finally, for the 6M category, we had Samuel and Wilson. Wilson is our last Chairperson who handed the post to Jasmine. He was placed in the "Group of Death", which comprises of top windsurfers among all the 4 varsities, there were even 2 ex-national windsurfers in that group. The toughest group had to be 6M as Wilson were ranked 5th out of 7 surfers and had the same points with the 4th and 6th position. He fall short by 1 point to get the bronze medal. For Samuel, he's only a freshie but he had windsurfing background since secondary sch, he was one of the 2 ex-windsurfer in the youth team last time(although he does not like me to say it out, Sorry Sam) With his experience and never say die attitute, which is why he calls himself 'SuperSam', he came in first position for 6M.

We are gonna go on a tough fight with all the other varsities, we are so gonna put in our best show as the NTU Open results had already set the pace for us. It's time for the showdown!

Team NUS will not have any regrets this ITWC 2008, to all my fellow Team mates, Jude, Lisa, Squid, Jeron, Lionel, Samuel and Wilson, it's time to show what you got and let's not let anyone down, especially YOURSELF! You have trained so damn hard for this! This is it! I'm excited...ready to go!

Like I said, this gathering will not be as enjoyable if not for your presence. One person can plan a lot but if no one were to come today, it will not be complete. Thanks to Angelina, Shuhui, Jude, Lisa, Zhudong, Emmanuel, Jeron, Yeekai, Lindsay, Jasmine, Wilson, Willie, Teresa, Samuel and Kwanrong who came and made it an enjoyable and happy session.

I had 3 surprises for you guys, first was that of the powerpoint that I did, 2nd was a surprise coming all the way from Zurich, Switzerland by Paul and 3rd was the 'Lou Hei' or Lau Yu Sheng meant for everyone, regardless of whether they were in the race team, comm or just recre members who have trained equally hard as us thus far. It was to give blessing to everyone as we tossed the Yu Sheng and echoed: "Good results, no current on race day, SMU/SIM all capsize, win all races, good year ahead..."

Two events coming up in the month of Jan, namely V Bash and Funkamania. Our Recre Surfer, Yee Kai, is the Project Director of V Bash on the 26th Jan while another Recre Surfer, Lindsay, is one of the organisers for Funkamania on the 27th Jan.

Race Trainings

Trainings has been intensified from this week onwards, we have added two land training sessions to build up on physical strength. So, what we decided upon was circuit training and rowing machine training. We will continue with these two regimes every week on tues and fri until 16th Feb. Everyone, this will only last for about a month, do come for it while you can. Jasmine says it's nice and fun training together, I guess everyone more or less agrees with her right...

Circuit Training at Stadium, 15th Jan

We did running, step-up, dips, push-ups, pull-up, arm hang and crunches/sit-up. It was a good session with muscles aching the next few days.

Rowing Machine Training above Swimming pool, 18th Jan

We each did one set of 2000m followed by another small set of 500m. That machine seems to be fun initially cos got fish game. After rowing a few hundred metres, the real challenge kicks in man. Every part of the body can feel the musles battling against that machine. We also did some sprints outside the rowing machines to make it a wholesome workout.

Now you understand why Sam hates the rowing machine so much! That machine is ferocious!

While we were on the 2nd level, there were hunks training below us, Miss Weiting is caught red-handed ogling at hunks la...hah! But, why is Emmanuel and Sam checking out the guys...Erm..I leave that for you to decide!

These messages above are what I've received from friends, we have many other people rooting for us. They make me feel even more inspired to spur on to achieve our goal. We also got other individuals who came for training even though they were not in the race team, yong jian, may may, wei ting. I applaud your effort for training together with us. I'm sorry if I was harsh during the first training, I just hope for the training to be worth your time and effort for coming down.

For ah pek gang who have surfed with me since Dec 2006, I've seen how each of us have improved. I'm really happy to see you guys improve so much from last time. From cannot move properly to getting top 3 in races, that is a huge leap. Emmanuel, last sem for you right? Thanks for chionging so much with me in windsurfing, may your last sem end with a bang!

My personal message to everyone: we only got this one month to chiong training and next month is the show down with all the other schools. No matter how good the others are, all I know is we have to do our best to train and surf our best on competition day. We are doing this for ourselves, for NUS Windsurfing Club. I am glad to have trained with you guys, we push each other on, we also shared loads of joy and laughter in our trainings. Thank You Everyone! Let's continue to guide each other along and get ready to meet the rest of the schools at the start line.

Race Trainings and Recre Surfing

!! Announcement!!

To everyone in the race trainings, pls take note that our competitions will be drawing near, first up is the NTU Open on the 16th Feb, followed by the prestigious Inter-Tertiary Windsurfing Competition (ITWC) on 23 and 24th Feb. We will be having intensive trainings from now all the way till these 2 competitions are over. From now on, on top of the weekly sea trainings, we will be having 2 land trainings in sch to build up on muscle strength and endurance.

All surfing sessions from now till end of Feb will be mainly for race trainings, extra boards will be rented out to the recre surfers. So for this period of time, I seek the understanding of all recre surfers. Just bear with it for a while, ok? Thanks! Everything will resume back to normal once these competitions are over.

For everyone who are not racing for these competitions, you can come support your fellow NUS windsurfers and at the same time, gain a better understanding on the basics and techniques of windsurfing as you watch how the better surfers do it. Everyone is highly encouraged to come especially for ITWC as NUS is the organiser for this year's event. We will wanna garner everyone's help and support as much as possible. So whoever is free can come join us at PA East Coast. It will be a worthwhile experience.

Details for land training for this week: 15th Jan, Tues and 18th Jan, Fri. Kindly meet at the stadium at 6.30pm sharp in your PT attire for tue. Venue for fri will be released soon. Those who wishes to join us are more than welcome to come along. It will be nice having more people training together.

Yoohoo! We just came back from phuket and I must say that its a super eventful trip with so many things that happened. I wont touch on the details but will leave it to weizhong and the pictures to say it all.

Just want to say that I really enjoy the company of this bunch of crazy, fun loving, silly, whiny, blur, "gayish", always hungry, funny people who brought so much laughter and warmth to my life!

I was very touched when I enter the blog and see so many new entries. Right now, I have this warm fuzzy feeling inside of me as I read the posts, listen to "Because of you" and think of the whole bunch of you..... :)

!!!NOTICE!!!

Those who came down to surf today enjoyed a short little session of strong gust during the rain that came and went away within 15min. OMG..it was damn shiok can, sorry to the first group who did not enjoyed it, but for the 2nd group, water time was not very long also. So I guess both groups were quits. Anyway, back to that strong gust, all I remembered was Uncle Tan saying: "lift up your daggerboard and go and plane.." Upon those advice, I started to feel the speed of the board increasing tremendously. One can truely understand why windsurfers are always out there waiting for the wind of their life to come. We were planing or "flying" on the surface of the water, adrenaline pumping stuff man..

Back to the topic of this post, we are going on a holiday, to Phuket, Thailand from 7th to 10th Jan 2008. More pictures will be shared when we come back. Meanwhile, everyone just enjoy the rest of this week, those who wanna surf just before school starts, we are gonna have a surfing session this coming Sun, 13th Jan. This post is going to all of you, all 15 of us in the Windsurf Committee 07/08. After one semester had passsed, all of us had done so much for the club. As I looked back on what's considered history by now, I've seen everyone's contribution. From updating the website and adding new things, writing reports, organising outings, doing proper training, management of the committee, sourcing for sponsors, handling all the financials issues, typing all the admin work, coordinating the new courses...Although we may not have informed each other of what we have done, I'm pretty sure that we can see what is new and pops out in front of us.

Surf's Up 2007 - December Training Camp

The annual December Training Camp was a success thanks to everyone, the Organisers, the Committee members and not to forget the participants. Last year, I was a participant and this year I was one of the organiser for this camp. We had changed a lot of things as compared from the 2006 camp, things like food(haha..), activities and a special relay race to end off the camp. One thing that did not change was the relax tempo and chill-out atmosphere of the camp, we are not as ra-ra as other camps, we just did what we want and do not confine to a fix schedule. I saw a lot of old faces and new faces during the camp, really glad to have see everyone improving on their windsurfing skills. Less talk now, here are the pictures...
